Hammonton, NJ (October 25, 2015). The Historical Society of Hammonton invites the public to a community program to be held Thursday, November 5th, 8:00 PM at the Canoe Club, Lake Park, Hammonton. Programs are free, provided as a service to the community. There is no requirement to be a member of HSH to attend. The program is videoed and a copy is placed in our archives so that now or future generations will be provided with a snapshot of Hammonton’s past.
Program for the evening will be “The Story of Frog Rock” as told by its founder, our speaker for the evening, Mr. Rock Colasurdo.
Rock, born and raised on the family farm on Pleasant Mills Road has served his community well serving two terms on Town Council, long time member of the Water Commission and Airport Administrator. His civic mindedness is recalled as master of ceremony for President Ronald Reagans Hammonton Day and for the “Colasurdo Compromise” that in effect enabled Town Hall to be built at its present location. His talents included his own WRDR radio program, “Rocky’s Corner” featuring local interviews.
Following school, he began a mind-boggling schedule, performing as a musician in the evening at clubs such as the Golden Inn in Avalon and by day a beautician at his Atlantic City shop.
In 1969, Rock and his wife Gloria purchased 10 acres on Boyer Avenue once a working cranberry bog. The farmhouse was soon converted into a restaurant, Frog Rock Inn, followed by the building of a golf course where fairways now traverse the beautiful natural setting of native oaks and pines and a new name, Frog Rock Golf and Country Club. In the early days Rock mowed the greens at daybreak so he could be in Atlantic City for his 9:00 A.M. appointment. Ever the restless entrepreneur, Rock soon purchased the land between Boyer Avenue and the White Horse Pike and built Kerri Brooke Caterers and a grand home on a hill overlooking the golf course. There he and his wife raised a family of four, Kerri, Kristin, Kelly and Rock, Jr. The three girls all graduated from Villanova with degrees in law while Rocky Jr. received a culinary degree from A.C.C
Daughter Kristin joined the business in 2007. Under her direction remodeling occurred capturing the breathtaking views and a new restaurant where dinners are served on Friday and Saturday evenings. Banquets, Weddings, Meetings continue to be held at Frog Rock and Kerri Brooke.
Join us Thursday night November 5th. Enjoy the evening with friends, HSH members and our speaker.
Refreshments will be served prior to the program.
